Hello,
Here's an update, we are finishing up our blues unit, with our own composition and a performance. We are also doing a group performance of Jingle Bells. The advance guitarists will be doing their own lessons next week. Today we had great guest speaker, Luke Bailey, a professional musician, courtesy of Tony's Music Box. He got a great session on guitars and music theory.
Cheers

New Unit
Hello,
Gr 10's have finally completed their keyboard and music history unit. We are moving onto guitar and blues now until December. I hope to have a class concert in January, but it is dependent on the students. Students are encouraged to bring their own guitar label with their name and a case. I do not provide picks or strings. I am really looking forward to hearing all the guitar talent in the class.
Cheers

Phew!
What a busy week we are having in Grade 10 music! We have finally finished our Gr 9 review and are finishing up our first composition. I am looking forward to our first mini concert after March break. I hope to be able to post listening samples of our performances of compositions, so check back soon. As well we will be having a music theory test on Gr 9 review. As well there will be a listening test to make sure people are focused on musical characteristics and not treating music like background sound. After March Break I hope that we will be done our first individual keyboard peice and will move on to our first group peice. Following that students will be able to select their own pieces for the keyboard and we should be able to have another concert.
Have a great week and study hard.

The end of the semester!
It has been a long time since I updated due to snow days, holidays and working very hard on our exit project. Students did a fantastic job on the end of semester concert and I am very proud of the performances. Every student contributed to the show and it was well recieved. Final marks will be distributed with report cards, but if a student would like a video copy of their performance please contact Ms. Hsu and make arrangements. I cannot post them online because of the length, privacy concerns and school policy. Thanks for being a good class. Good luck on exams.
